College and university sports preview: January 6, 2023

LETHBRIDGE, AB – Post-secondary teams in Lethbridge are back in action following their holiday break.

Both the Lethbridge College Kodiaks and University of Lethbridge (U of L) Pronghorns have teams competing this weekend.

LETHBRIDGE COLLEGE KODIAKS

Both the men’s and women’s volleyball teams hit the court this weekend.

In regular season action, the women’s team will host the SAIT Trojans in Lethbridge at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 7, 2023. The Kodiaks enter the second half of the season in second place in the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) South Division, with seven wins and four losses.

Following the women’s game, the men’s team will match up against SAIT at 8:00 p.m. The team starts the second part of the season with a record of eight wins and three losses, putting them in first place in the ACAC South Division.

Meanwhile, both the men’s and women’s basketball teams have this weekend off. They will return to the court on Thursday, January 12 when both teams host the SAIT Trojans.

UNIVERSITY OF LETHBRIDGE PRONGHORNS

Both of the U of L Pronghorns basketball teams are in Calgary for a couple of games this weekend.

On Friday, January 6, the women’s basketball team visits the Mount Royal University Cougars for a 6:00 p.m. game. On Saturday, January 7, at 5:00 p.m., the teams will square off in a rematch. The Pronghorns have a record of five wins and five losses to start the second half of the season. This puts them in 10th place in the Canada West standings.

The Pronghorns men’s basketball team begins part two of the season with four wins and six losses. This has them sitting in 12th place in the Canada West standings. The team faces Mount Royal University at 8:00 p.m. on Friday, January 6. A rematch with the Cougars is set for 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 7.
