Canada’s Gabriel Diallo retires due to injury in opening match at French Open

PARIS — Gabriel Diallo is out of the French Open.

The Montreal native retired due to injury from his opening-round match against Australian James Duckworth on Sunday at the tennis Grand Slam event. Duckworth was leading 6-3, 4-1.

Diallo went without an ace and break-point opportunity before exiting the match.

Duckworth had three aces and converted on three of his five break-point chances.

Canadian men Félix Auger-Aliassime and Denis Shapovalov are set to play their opening matches on Tuesday.

On the women’s side, Leylah Fernandez opens her tournament on Monday and Victoria Mboko plays on Tuesday.
