LETHBRIDGE – Students from the 20th Independent Field Battery, RCA will put their navigation skills to the test.

Roughly 40 students and instructors will learn about navigating mountainous terrains with a GPS, checkpoints and cold weather indoctrination.

“This weekend [on Saturday, January 16] we’re in Lethbridge down in Indian Battle Park. The next weekend [on Friday, January 22], the students will be driving around in their vehicles, practicing their skills to navigate with a GPS in a mounted role. Then, Saturday, January 23, they’ll be headed out to the Porcupine Hills/Livingstone area to continue those drills in a mountainous environment,” explained Regimental Command Post Officer, John McDonald.

He adds that these kinds of skills are important for Canadian Armed Forces members to prepare for both warfighting and humanitarian efforts.

Participants will be dress in Canadian Disruptive Pattern uniforms, without fighting equipment and weapons, and will be driving standard military pattern vehicles.

McDonald says they’re not asking residents to stay clear of the areas, but just want them to be aware that there will be students present.
