3rd Annual F*Cancer Lethbridge Event Aims to Empower and Educate

Jan 22, 2016 | 12:37 PM

LETHBRIDGE:  It might have a vulgar title, but it’s a cause worth getting behind.

F*** Cancer is a fundraising and awareness campaign targeted towards young adults. It was started by Yael Cohen Braun and Julie Greenbaum with the mission of preventing and detecting cancer earlier, while also empowering communities to do more.

Since 2009, the organization has raised over $2-million towards cancer research and tools.

Riley Miller brought an event in coordination with the organization to Lethbridge three years ago.

“I jumped on board with this after my diagnosis with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. My cousin attended an event in Montreal during my treatment, and sent me a t-shirt that said ‘F*** Cancer’ on it, and I thought it was awesome,” Miller explained.

“I looked into the company… and I felt like Lethbridge could also jump on board with something like this. I bounced back just fine. So, this is my way to help celebrate atleast being around, and supporting everybody else who has also been affected.”

To date, Lethbridge has raised over $14-thousand for the Jack Ady Cancer Centre through the Alberta Cancer Foundation. Miller hopes to raise between $8 and $9-thousand dollars this year for F*** Cancer programs.

Your ticket to the event comes in the form of a t-shirt. You can purchase them in the university Student’s Union building for $25, between 10-am and 4-pm every day.

The shirts come with different colored ribbons in support of different forms of cancer. You must wear the shirt to get into the event at Pulse Nightclub on Thursday, February 4th.

If you can’t make it to the university for a shirt, you can contact Riley or another member on the event’s Facebook page (F Cancer Lethbridge 2016).
