LETHBRIDGE: The Southern Alberta Summer Games will be back in Lethbridge this summer.

City Council granted the Southern Alberta Recreation Association $100,000 towards sports and cultural events during the games.

Association Vice Chair Stephanie Wierl noted that the games have a 46-year history in southern Alberta, and include athletes between the ages of 3 and 90, “There’s opening and closing ceremonies, there’s activities for families to participate in, we have quilting displays, photography displays, everything from cribbage and darts all the way up to your basic sporting events such as soccer, basketball and track field events, so there’s really something for everybody.”

Wierl also explained why the event is coming back to Lethbridge, “It’s been 10-years since Lethbridge last hosted and we really wanted to bring it to a community that was really well established, it’s been in rural communities over the years.”
