Lethbridge College Kodiaks Prepare For Thursday Volleyball Match

Jan 27, 2016 | 3:24 PM

The Val Matteotti Gymnasium should be full and loud as the Lethbridge College Kodiaks host the SAIT Trojans in a rare Thursday night volleyball encounter.

The Kodiaks men (10-8) can take a big step towards securing a playoff berth if they are able to sweep the Trojans in a home-and-home series which concludes Saturday in Calgary. The Kodiaks currently hold place in the ACAC south division, but come into the match just one game up on the fourth place Trojans (9-7). Only the top four teams in the division advance to the playoffs. Lethbridge split a series with higher ranked Medicine Hat College last weekend and have won four of six games since the second semester began.

On the women’s side, the Kodiaks (3-15) hope to find a spark at home. It will be a challenge though as they welcome the Trojans (12-4) who sit in second place in the ACAC south division. While the club has struggled, one individual has stood out – second year middle Laura Serafini (Business Administration – Accounting, Grasmere, BC) is tied for second in the ACAC south division in blocks per set (0.7).

The Kodiaks will get a boost from a large and boisterous crowd as the “Battle of the Residence Halls” will take place. Lethbridge College residence students will “get their growl on” in a competition to be the loudest and most supportive hall.

First serve in the women’s match is at 6 p.m. on Thursday, with the men to follow at 8 p.m. in the Val Matteotti Gymnasium. Tickets are free for students with a valid student ID, $4 for children and youth and $6 for all others. For more information, check out gokodiaks.ca.
