LETHBRIDGE: Lethbridge’s Streets Alive Mission is encouraging residents to bundle up for the Coldest Night of the Year Walk.

The national family friendly winter fundraiser takes place the night of Saturday February 20th to raise awareness and money for the homeless and hungry.

Streets Alive Founder Ken Kissick says the initiative hopes to raise $40,000 to put towards their youth, housing and education programs.

“Those funds generated will go into our different programs. Our youth program, our housing programs, our education programs and our feeding programs we run here.”

Kissick joked that he would like to see 250 come out for the event but his team believes between 180 – 200 people is a more realistic goal.

There were 125 walkers last year and the fundraiser grossed $35,000 – the most in any one year for the local effort.

The walk will take place in Exhibition Park with participates choosing a 2, 5 or 10 KM route.

Streets Alive Mission has been serving Lethbridge for 26 years and the funds raised from the event will benefit clients in a time of the year known for very low levels of giving.

Kissick says the Coldest Night of the Year is one of their major fundraisers for the year.
