Wildlife Fence Being Installed Around Lethbridge Airport

Feb 3, 2016 | 3:55 PM

LETHBRIDGE: Over 10 km of fencing is being installed around the Lethbridge Airport to keep out wildlife.

The fence will stand three metres high with 6.5km already erected.

95 % of the $436,000 project was funded by Transport Canada.

County Reeve Lorne Hickey says without the funding the project, that should be completed in March, would still be in limbo.

“It’s very benefictial to us. At the airport, all of our capital projects have received ACAP [Airport Capital Assistance Program] support, from our runways to taxi ways and lighting. Without it, airports are simply not feasible.”

Approximately 500 deer have been sighted on airport property since 2012, including 56 already reported this year.
