150 Coyote Carcasses Found Near Milk River Ridge Reservoir

LETHBRIDGE – Approximately 150 coyote carcasses have been found on public lands surrounding the Milk River Ridge Reservoir.

Fish and Wildlife officers received a complaint from a member of the public who made the discovery on March 2nd.

Brenden Cox explains that it’s not illegal to hunt coyotes, “An Alberta resident may hunt coyotes without a licence year-round as long as they are doing so on land to which they have a right of access and as long as it’s not on unoccupied forested public lands where hunting coyotes is only permitted during the hunting season”.

Cox feels these coyotes were likely hunted and trapped legally, however the concern in this case is the improper disposal of waste on public land, which is an offence under the Environmental Protection Act and carries a $250 fine.
