LETHBRIDGE: A preliminary inquiry has been set for a Lethbridge man accused of a significant fraud.

Scott James Piggott was charged in 2015, for offences that allegedly occurred between March and July of 2013. Police were informed that a local agriculture business had been defrauded out of more than $800,000.

Police say the scam involved obtaining hay under false pretenses, without ever paying for it.

In Taber court Tuesday morning, Piggott elected trial by judge and jury on charges of fraud over $5,000, theft over $5,000 and false pretenses over $5,000.
