College Showcased in Canadian Hunting Show

LETHBRIDGE – The School of Environmental Sciences at Lethbridge College will be helping a Canadian-based show learn the science behind hunting.

Trigger Effect will be filming with the Chair of the School of Environmental Sciences, Terry Kowalchuk, over this next week.

“[We’ll be] focusing on the episodes and what they’re about, and then adding a segment that deals with some of the science behind that type of episode,” noted Kowalchuk.

“In the case of snow goose hunts, for example, we would be talking about some of the science behind the population assessment of snow geese, or some of the management strategies that we’re using. Those sorts of tie-ins to the show is what our segment focus will be.”

He added that this is a great opportunity for exposure for the Resource Management and Enforcement programs.

Hosts Dean Trumbley and Kent Michie both started out as biologists themselves.

Trumbley explained that they started a segment called “Bringing Science to the Hunt” in the show’s first two seasons. The two then wanted to get a post-secondary institution involved to add more to the educational component, while also inspiring youth to get their careers started.

Trumbley says Trigger Effect will be following up with the college. “The biggest reason is it’s probably got the best known Environmental Sciences program in Canada. From the preliminary talks we’ve had with Lethbridge, we think it’s a fantastic fit, so we definitely would like to see them continue this relationship.”

Episodes are being filmed for the show’s fourth season, and will start airing on Wild TV July 1st.
