ASDC Southwest Announces Recipients of Southwest Alberta Junior Athletes of the Year

LETHBRIDGE:  The Alberta Sport Development Centre (ASDC) Southwest has chosen the recipients of the sixth annual Southwestern Alberta Junior Athletes of the Year for 2015.

The recognition is presented each year to a male and female athlete who have resided in southwest Alberta during their competitive season and have excelled in their sport. The ASDC also takes into consideration the athlete’s traits of fair play and sportsmanship, respect for competition and a passion for their sport.

The 2015 ASDC Athletes of the Year are:

Tim Prankard, a student at Chinook High School, is the Junior Male Athlete of the Year. Tim has played for the Chinook Coyotes athletics sine Grade 10. He has excelled for the Coyotes in basketball, track and field and rugby. In football, Tim was also awarded the league most outstanding all-star running back at the age of 15.

Tim was named to the 2015 Southern Alberta High School Football League (SAHSFL) all star team and was a captain of Team Alberta, which recently participated at the U-16 International Bowl in Arlington, Texas.

Hana Varsanyi, is the Junior Female Athlete of the year. Hana trains two to four hours a day, six days a week and has her sights set on representing Canada at the Olympic Games. She has had a successful cadet and junior judo career, winning national championships and national team ranking competitions,

Hana was chosen by Judo Canada to represent Canada at the World Cadet Judo Championships during the summer of 2015. She is a member of the Judo Canada National Team and trains at the Lethbridge Judo Club / Judo Canada Regional Training Center.

The awards will be formally presented to Tim and Hana on April 5th in conjunction with the Lethbridge Sport Council’s Achievement Awards.
