Mar 18, 2016 | 12:10 PM

LETHBRIDGE:  With March being Fraud prevention month, Lethbridge Police are partnering with Lethbridge Mobile Shredding to host a free shredding event on Saturday (March 19th).

The event is a way for law enforcement to stress the need to gaurd your personal information from criminals.

Any document that has your name or other personal information can be a pathway to identity theft.

Criminals are not too proud to resort to ‘dumpster diving’ to rcover discarded documents.

To engage in identity theft, criminals need documents which may include your identity, including your name, date of birth, Social Insurance Number, passport details, income tax documents, or anything containing your personal information. The scammer can then use the information to obtain credit in your name, opening accounts or transferring property.

To prevent identity theft, all documents containing personal inforamtion should be shredded.

The shredding event will be held in the parking lot behind City Hall from 8:00-AM until noon on Saturday.

Residents can bring a maximum of six boxes of personal documents for FREE shredding.
