Possible Drop in Hemp Acreage in 2016

Mar 24, 2016 | 4:56 PM

While demand for hemp foods and products is growing rapidly in Canada, it may be a tight year for hemp growers on the Prairies.

Hemp Oil Canada president Shaun Crew says unexpected bumper crops in the past few crops years have created an abundance in hemp supply, which will mean a reduction in contracts this growing season.

Crew says there should be growth on the organic side but on the conventional side, it will be fairly steady to even a lesser number of acres.

Despite a potential drop in acreage, Canadian hemp growers can look forward to a new resource in production practices. Crew says the Hemp Production Guide will be available this year.
