Cause of MP Jim Hillyer’s Heart Attack Yet to be Determined

Mar 28, 2016 | 2:21 PM

RAYMOND – The Ontario coroner’s office has confirmed MP Jim Hillyer died of a heart attack.

The 41-year old Medicine Hat – Cardston – Warner MP was found in his Ottawa office on the morning of March 23rd.

Autopsy reports stated that Hillyer died instantly of cardiomyopathy. However, it’s unclear whether it was caused by a pre-existing heart condition or a side effect of intense chemotherapy. He battled with leukemia in 2003.

Further test results this week will confirm which factor was the ultimate cause of death. The medical examination already ruled out any current health issues.

His wife, Olivia Hillyer, made a statement about his passing in a news release today. She says she couldn’t be more appreciative for the love and support her family has received over the last few days.

Olivia remembers him as a man of God who believed deeply in the country and people he served.

Jim and Olivia were highschool sweethearts, and were married for 25 years. They have four children together, London, Taylor, Nation and Asia.

His funeral arrangements are as follows:
