EDMONTON – Hundreds of Albertans got traffic tickets over the long weekend.

R-C-M-P say just under 3,000 tickets were issued around the province this past weekend for speeding alone. Several other tickets were handed out for seatbelt offences and uninsured or unregistered vehicles.

Police say distracted driving offences were also a problem with 37 tickets issued, despite higher fines and the addition of demerit points back on January 1st.

R-C-M-P also issued 34 roadside suspensions for alcohol and drugs.
