Hurricanes Drop 3-2 Decision to the Pats in Regina

REGINA:  Game 3 of the Lethbridge Hurricanes – Regina Pats playoff series opened with the Canes first on the score sheet and the first to be hit with major penalties.

Giorgio Estephan had a short-handed goal at the 7:21 mark of the first period. The goal followed on the heels of a 5-minute major and 10-minute misconduct tagged to Carter Folk, just under five minutes into the game. The first period came to an end with the Canes ahead 1-0.

The second period was highlighted by a run of ten penalties shared evenly between the two teams. Regina’s Cole Sanford evened the score with 3:30 remaining in the period and the Canes leading shots 20-13.

The third period began with the Canes’ Giorgio Estephan and Colby Williams of the Pats finishing off penalties from late in the second.  The Canes weren’t able to hold onto the puck early in the period and a goal by Sam Steel on a power play pulled the Pats ahead 2-1.  Steel’s goal was followed by another from Rykr Cole with less than six minutes left in the game. 

With two minutes remaining on the clock Andrew Nielsen laid one in for the Canes on a power play. In spite of the hard fought battle, the Pats take the game 3-2 and now lead the series 2-games to one.

The Canes out-shot the Pats 32-22 but, also outdistanced Regina in penalty minutes – 29 to 14.

Game four of the series goes Wednesday night in Regina before moving back to Lethbridge on Friday.
