Lethbridge Gives Back to All Volunteers

Apr 10, 2016 | 10:43 AM

LETHBRIDGE – Nearly 12.7-million volunteers across Canada will be honoured through National Volunteer Week.

It’s used to recognize the countless hours dedicated volunteers put in throughout the year.

Volunteer Lethbridge will be hosting a number of activites in the city from the April 10 to 16, starting with a flag raising at City Hall on Monday. The following Wednesday, 105 youth volunteers will be celebrated at the Leaders of Tomorrow Gala.

A full schedule of events can be found on the organization’s website.

“Really if you think about every aspect of the community, you see how volunteers are a part of that. I see that the value of it is growing,”  Diana Sims, Executive Director for Volunteer Lethbridge, noted.

“There are some people who have never volunteered who, once they take that step, realize this does something for them, as well. Not just for the community and not just for the cause, but it’s growing them.”

Sims added that there are volunteer opportunities suitable for every resident. She suggested that if you don’t know where to get started, pick something you like to do or a skill you have to offer and decide from there.

Volunteer Lethbridge can help residents connect with positions, as well.

The organization’s ongoing partnership with the University of Lethbridge has also helped in reaching out to a younger generation of potentially life-long volunteers.

This is the 13th consecutive year recognizing Volunteer Week nationwide.
