Inmate Escapes Work Group Near Henderson Lake

LETHBRIDGE – Police were busy just before the noon hour on Thursday, after an minumim security inmate from the Lethbridge Correctional Centre escaped from a work group near Henderson Lake.

A citizen saw the inmate running and called police to report the escape and the direction of travel the inmate was running in.

The inmate went over to Lakemount Blvd South where he broke into a residence and confronted the homeowner who was alone and demanded her car keys.

The homeowner attempted to call 911 but the inmate grabbed the homeowner and stole her cellular phone after a struggle.

The inmate fled from the residence and attempted to enter the owners vehicle but was unsuccessful in doing so.

Police flooded the area and the inmate was sighted but he continued to evade capture.

After a brief foot pursuit the inmate gave up in the area of Lakeridge Road South where he was taken into custody.

The inmate was taken back to the Lethbridge Police Service where he is now awaiting formal charges. The victim received minor scrapes and bruises during the break and enter but was not taken to hospital.
