Alberta Finance Minsiter Joe Ceci Doesn’t Want to Be First to Introduce Sales Tax

EDMONTON: Alberta Finance Minister Joe Ceci says he’ll keep his promise not to introduce a sales tax and will find other ways to help deal with a 10.4-billion dollar deficit.
Ceci made the comments to the Calgary Chamber of Commerce, where the business audience expressed interest in the revenue-raising measure.
Chamber chief executive Adam Legge said the province is closing a door that doesn’t need to be closed while economist Trevor Tombe said that if the government wants to raise revenue, a sales tax makes the most sense.
But Ceci says the government’s plan is to keep looking for ways to cut spending while growing the economy.
