LETHBRIDGE:  Lethbridge College has accepted another huge gift for its Trades and Technology building.

Members of the Lethbridge Construction Association (LCA) presented the College with a cheque for $100,000 on Tuesday, in a show of support for trades and technology instruction at the college.  The money will be used to create the Lethbridge Construction Association classroom.

The 250 member companies that make up the LCA, which was formed in 1954, employs more than 3,000 trades people and relies on the graduates and apprenticeship training from the Lethbridge College programs.

In making the presentation, LCA President Nathan Neudorf of Ward Bros. Construction refelected on the College’s impact over the years.

“The planning and foundation that LCA members and boards have set in place over the years gives us this opportunity to invest in the future workforce of the trades in southern Alberta.”

Dr. Paula Burns also noted the College’s contribution to the trades community.

“If you walked into the office of almost any Lethbridge Construction Association member, odds are you would find someone working there who has come through the college. The strength of the LCA creates a climate where our grads and apprentices can thrive, and we are thankful for the association’s show of support to the training we provide.”

Aside from Tuesday’s $100,000 donation, individual companies within LCA have already contributed more than $1 Million previously in support to programs which help sustain their industry

The first phase of the new facility officially opened on September 30th of 2015, and when complete in 2017, the trades and technologies facility will be the largest centre of its kind south of Calgary, housing students in nine skilled trades, including a brand new Plumbing program.
