Second Non-Confidence Vote in Two Years from College Faculty Association

LETHBRIDGE – It’s the second vote of non-confidence in as many years from the Lethbridge College Faculty Association.

The results were almost an exact mirror of last year’s survey, showing a fairly significant lack of confidence in the leadership from Chairman Randy Jespersen, President Dr. Paula Burns, Vice President Stuart Cullum, and the entire Board of Governors itself. (Results pictured to the right)

President of the Association, Gerri Joosse, says petitioners wanted to expand this year’s survey to include more specific members, however the association does not initiate these kinds of votes.

“There’s a bold vision in terms of making sure we’re really relevant, and that as the environment changes around us, as the economy changes, that we have education that is accessible, affordable and flexible,” noted Dr. Burns.

“However, I think looking out, it was a lot of change, and maybe the sense was it was too quickly. So, I would say the overall direction is not the issue, but maybe how fast we were going.”

While disappointed in the result, Burns remains committed to providing high quality education for all students’ success.

She noted that they’ll be moving forward from here, with the board still in support of the college’s strategic direction and approved comprehensive institutional plan.

Joosse also recognized that the past two years has caused some notable frustration, but the on-going goal is to find a quick resolution that’s in the best interest of all students.
