Derek Saretzky to Proceed Directly to Trial on Three Counts of First Degree Murder

Apr 29, 2016 | 1:23 PM

LETHBRIDGE – A preliminary hearing has been cancelled for Derek Saretzky, as he will now proceed directly to trial.

He faces three counts of first degree murder in the deaths of Terry Blanchette, his two-year-old daughter Hailey Dunbar-Blanchette, and Hanna Meketech.

Saretzky was identified as a suspect in Meketech’s murder, while under investigation for the deaths of Terry and his daughter.

While Saretzky initially had a preliminary hearing date set for June 20 to confirm there was enough evidence to proceed to trial, the Crown has now moved to direct indictment, meaning the case will go straight to trial.
