Fire Ban Issued for All of Alberta

May 5, 2016 | 5:26 PM

ALBERTA – The province has issued a fire ban for all of Alberta as fire crews continue to battle the wildfire that’s ravaging Fort McMurray.

All fire permits have been suspended and no new ones will be issued. The ban applies to all open fires, including campfires and charcoal briquettes.

Only portable propane fire pits and gas or propane stoves and barbecues designed for cooking or heating are allowed.

The news release from the provincial government is also asking the public to avoid the use of Off Highway Vehicles (OHVs) as much as possible, as they could spark a fire. If you need to use one, they ask that you remove burnable debris from hotspots. They also gave a reminder that all OHVs in Alberta are required to have a functional muffler and spark arresters.
