Woman Accused of Killing Mother Makes Brief Court Appearance

May 10, 2016 | 10:47 AM

LETHBRIDGE – A 51-year old Calgary woman accused of killing her own mother made her fourth appearance in Lethbridge Provincial Court Tuesday morning via CCTV.

Lisa Freihaut faces a charge of second degree murder for the death of 78-year old Irene Carter.

On January 17, 2016, Freihaut and her husband called police, saying they found Carter’s body in her home along the 300 block of Normandy Road South while going to check-up on her.

An autopsy confirmed she died from multiple stab wounds, and police believe she was killed on January 13.

Police explained that through their investigation, they believe the two were involved in a dispute over finances, and that a physical altercation resulted in Carter’s death. They also noted that there is currently no evidence implicating Freihaut’s husband.

Freihaut will return to court on Friday.
