Palliser Operational Review Stalled as Panelists Turn Down Contracts

May 10, 2016 | 2:45 PM

LETHBRIDGE – A review of Palliser Regional Schools operations has run into a delay, as the three people who were offered contracts to conduct the review decided not to sign them.

Chair Colleen Deitz shared the information with the Board of Trustees at a special board meeting Tuesday.

She explained that one of the potential reviewers emailed her saying all three had independently arrived at the decision, without providing a reason. She called for an answer, but has yet to receive a reply.

After an in-camera meeting to consult Palliser’s legal counsel, the board voted to have Vice-Chair Robert Strauss contact the three potential reviewers and get an answer. A special meeting has been scheduled for May 17, at which time Strauss is expected to have an update.

Superintendent Kevin Gietz requested the board conduct the investigation back in January, after unverified comments and allegations were made against him online of bullying and unwelcomed physical contact toward female employees.

The board originally accepted the recommendation and approved a budget of $136,000, plus expenses for the review. That was later reduced to $74,999.99, including GST and expenses, after the board learned of trade agreements that required them to open a public procurement process for the purchase of any goods and services over $75,000.
