Lethbridge College Receives $200,000 for Plumbing Program

May 11, 2016 | 2:32 PM

LETHBRIDGE – The future is bright for Plumbing apprentices enrolled at Lethbridge College.

This morning, Simpson Plumbing of Lethbridge gifted the college $200,000 to benefit technologies training for plumbing students.

The contribution was spurred by the development and implementation of the new Plumber Apprenticeship program, launched by the College for the January 2016 semester.

The program allows Simpson Plumbing to keep its apprentices in town instead of sending them away for training.

Roger Simpson, Owner of Simpson Plumbing, said that the College was a natural choice and the contributions made on behalf of his company act as an investment in existing Simpson Plumbing staff as well as future apprentices in the community.

The contribution will go towards the creation of the Simpson Plumbing classroom, to be located in phase two of the College’s trades and technologies facilities.

When created in 2017, the new trades and technologies facility will be the largest centre of its kind south of Calgary and will house students in multiple skilled trades and technology programs.

Lethbridge College is now just $400,000 shy of their $25-million-dollar goal for the “The Possibilities are Endless Campaign.”

Paula Burns, Lethbridge College President says that the support from the community has exceeded expectations.

“To have Plumber Apprenticeship students on our campus this past academic year was an exciting step forward for all of us at the college,” she said.

Burns proudly announced that the college is on target to reach their the financial goal by June 2016.
