Detour and Lane Closures Coming as City Launches Pathway Projects

May 15, 2016 | 12:16 PM

LETHBRIDGE – As the city begins the first of four pathway projects this year, aimed at filling in gaps in the current pathway network, there is a detour and lane closures you need to be aware of.

Starting Monday (May 16) and going until the end of the month, the eastbound off-ramp from Highway 3 onto Mayor Magrath Drive will be shut down for construction of a new pathway along the east side of Mayor Magrath Drive South. Traffic looking to get off the highway can use the 19 Street South exit to 3 Avenue South.

Lane closures will also be in effect for southbound traffic along the 300 block of Mayor Magrath Drive South as well as eastbound traffic approaching Mayor Magrath Drive along 3 Avenue South. The intersections and business access will remain open.

Once complete, the new pathway section will run from 3 Avenue South to 7 Avenue South, and will include a pedestrian crossing with flashing lights at the northbound Mayor Magrath Drive off-ramp to Highway 3. There will also be a three-metre-wide asphalt multi-use pathway that connect to the regional pathway system, helping to connect north and south Lethbridge.
