Palliser Schools Moving Forward with a Two Member Operational Review Panel

May 17, 2016 | 3:09 PM

LETHBRIDGE – Palliser Regional Schools is hoping to move forward with its operational review after hitting a snag.

Contracts were sent out to three members chosen for the review panel, but one refused to sign for reasons that remain unknown.

However, Colleen Deitz, Palliser Board Chair, made it clear that it was not a money issue, and the Board has to follow the New West Partnership Trade Agreement. It states that any publicly funded body, like a school board, must hold an open public procurement process for any goods or services worth $75,000 or more.

Deitz explained that some changes to the terms of reference were necessary today.

“The terms of reference stated that it would be a review panel of three, and when one turned it down, the other two were bound by that. Now a motion has come from the Board that we will change our terms of reference so that it references a panel of two members.”

Those two are now in contract negotiations with legal counsel, and contracts should be ready for signing by May 24th.

Superintendent Kevin Geitz requested the review back in January, following unverified allegations against him of bullying and unwelcomed physical touch toward female employees.

Deitz recognized the frustration surrounding this lengthy process, but hopes it will continue to move forward from this point.
