Blood Tribe Police to go Door-to-Door for Medication Drop-Off Initiative

May 19, 2016 | 1:26 PM

STANDOFF – Blood Tribe Police and the Blood Tribe Prescription Drug Project are taking a few extra steps to help residents for National Prescription Drug Drop-off Day.

Instead of having people drop-off their expired, unwanted and unused prescription drugs at pharmacies on Saturday, their program will extend into next week with house-to-house pick-ups. They will be in Moses Lake and Lavern on Tuesday (May 24) and in Standoff on Wednesday (May 25).

Sergeant Jason Colon noted that they decided to go a step further because of the size of the reserve.

“Part of the problem with the Blood being such a large reserve is transportation, we could have one drop-off spot, but it’s a long distance from one spot to the other,” explained Colon. “We just want to make it easier for people to get rid of their prescriptions that they don’t need.”

In addition to the pick-ups there will also be presentations at each school on the Blood Reserve on Thursday (May 26).

“Every issue in the community we need to start young so they’re aware of it and know that it’s out there. Education is a huge part of prevention,” Colon stated.

To wrap up the week on Friday (May 27), everyone is welcome to attend an information session at the Blood Tribe Administration Building in the Tipi Room from 10-am to 1-pm. That will be followed by a free BBQ.
