LETHBRIDGE – The Lethbridge Police Service Tactical Team and K-9 Unit were at a home along the 900 Block of 6th Street south around 4:00 Thursday afternoon to execute a search warrant related to drug activity.

Traffic was blocked at 8th Avenue South, at both 6th Street and 9 Avenue South, with residents asked to avoid the area.

Heavily armed officers were on site for several hours, and used percussion blasts directed at the home.  A neighbour reports that a bull-horn was also used to notify those in the house that police had a search warrant, the house was surrounded and those inside were to exit one at a time with their hands up.  It was reported explosive disposal units were close by and officers used what appeared to be tear gas.

The neighbour, who declined to be identified, watched from a distance as more than half a dozen people intermittently left the home, some with their hands in the air and others removed from the residence in handcuffs.
