LETHBRIDGE – Registration has opened for the 47th annual Southern Alberta Southern Games.

Lethbridge will host the four day event which runs from July 6 through the 9th.

Erin Low, Chair of the SASG, said the games have become a growing part of Lethbridge’s culture.

“We have seen the local community come onboard to help deliver the sporting events, and we know the local community will come together to help host our Southern Alberta neighbors with Lethbridge hospitality,” she said. “We also hope to see an increased level of participation and a strong showing from our local athletes as we compete in our own backyard.”

Eric Sharp, games coordinator for the SASG, said they’re expecting athletes from communities ranging from the Crowsnest Pass all the way to Medicine Hat.

“There are 13 regions comprised of Southern Alberta that participate in the games and approximately 2,000 to 2,500 participants each year,” he said.

Organizers are also hoping that members of the community will be able to contribute their time to help put on the games.

“We’d love the community to step up,” Sharp said. “You can just go to the website and you can actually just sign up on line and you can suggest which sport you want to be involved with and what your availability is.”

Events for this year will include sports like races, archery and team sports as well as events like cribbage, pickleball and photography.

People who are interested in volunteering or participating can go to the SASG website at www.southernalbertasummergames.com to sign up. Registration for participants is $25 and allows them to enter up to three events.
