Wildrose Caucus Determines Steps for Strathmore-Brooks MLA to Have Suspension Lifted

ALBERTA – The Wildrose Caucus has set out steps for Strathmore-Brooks MLA Derek Fildebrandt to have his suspension lifted.

Fildebrandt was suspended by the party Friday evening, for what Wildrose Leader Brian Jean called an “unacceptable comment” on social media.

In a Wildrose news release, Jean called Fildebrandt “an important member of our conservative family”, saying he had accepted the suspension.

“We believe that Derek recognizes that he has had a long series of missteps on social media,” stated Jean in the release. “His latest comments on Friday night unfortunately conveyed a sentiment that is inconsistent with the values of our caucus, and frankly, inconsistent with Derek’s values.”

Jean went on to say that Fildebrandt has apologized to Albertans and that he has agreed to follow the steps set out by the Wildrose Caucus.

The suspension followed a comment a constituent made on Facebook last week, in which he referred to Ontario Premier Kathleen Wynne as ‘Mr Wynne or whatever the hell she identifies as’. Fildebrandt replied ‘Proud to have constituents like you!’

Jean has noted that the specific conditions for Fildebrant’s return are confidential.
