LETHBRIDGE – No charges will be laid against the driver of a truck involved in a fatal incident Thursday morning.

Police and EMS were called to the 100 block of Red Crow Boulevard around 5:30 a.m. after receiving a report that a truck had driven over a woman. The 16-year old was taken to hospital in critical condition and pronounced dead shortly after her arrival there.

An investigation has shown the girl was under the truck, which was parked on the street, when the 56-year old driver got into his vehicle to leave for work. He didn’t see the girl and she was run over as he pulled away from the curb. The driver called 911 immediately and remained at the scene.

Police don’t know how long the girl had been under the vehicle or why she was there in the first place.

Her body will now go to the Medical Examiner’s Office in Calgary to confirm the cause of death.

Following the investigation, member of the Traffic Response Unit determined the driver’s actions were accidental and no charges will be laid.
