Accused in West Side Murder Makes Brief Court Appearance

Jun 14, 2016 | 12:02 PM

LETHBRIDGE – Jillian Wendy Across the Mountain appeared briefly in court via CCTV Tuesday morning, facing a charge of second degree murder for the death of Candace Little Light.

Around 5:15-pm on February 7, 2016, police responded to a report that a woman had been severely injured in an apartment complex along the 100 block of Columbia Boulevard West. They located the 56-year old victim inside her apartment, and she was pronounced dead a short time later.

An investigation determined Little Light and the accused were intimate partners and had lived together in the apartment where the body was found.

Outside the courthouse, Little Light’s family spoke to the media, saying they wanted to show their support to her and each other.

“My sister Candy was a very strong person and she had a lot of love to give, support and kindness, and when we lost her, it broke our family,” explained her sister Ellen.

Another sister, Karen, noted that she has known Across the Mountain for years.

“I have a lot of anger to her, I really despise a lot of things towards her,” Karen stated. “There’s hate in there, and I shouldn’t have that, but I do, maybe in time I’ll be able to let it go, but right now I have so much anger.”

Across the Mountain will be back in court July 25, at which time her lawyer hopes to set a date for a preliminary hearing.
