Memorial Award Opens Opportunities for New Mechanics

LETHBRIDGE – Two Lethbridge College students were honoured with the first ever Brian Kaltenbruner Memorial Tool Award.

An important member of Harold’s Auto Service since 1994, Brian passed away in a tragic motorcycle accident last June. The award is now funded by a personal donation by his wife Beverly.

A corporate donation from Harold’s Auto of $1,000, and support from Snap-on Industrial and Silver Auto of Lethbridge are also being invested so the award will one day be self-sustaining.

“Investment in good quality tools is a huge stumbling block to many students. It’s my hope that we can plant seeds of possibility into the minds of business owners across the country to support the next generation of technicians,” said Beverly.

Abe Banman, a third-year apprentice, and Daniel Henrie,  a first-year apprentice, were chosen by their instructors because of their desire for excellence and commitment to the industry.

Banman recieved a $2,500 tool certificate, while Henrie was awarded $1,500 earlier this month.
