LETHBRIDGE – It was an good day for the Trades Department at Lethbridge College on Monday (June 20th).

Lethbridge College and Empire Homes celebrated a ground breaking ceremony in the Six Mile subdivision for the College Home Project.

Dr. Paula Burns, CEO and President of Lethbridge College, proudly announced the fourth-year installment of a five-year plan to raise $1 million for the construction of a new Trades Facility on campus.

“We know that times are tough, so to see this home go up this year, we are very excited.”

Empire Homes are the most recent Canadian Home Builders Association (CHBA) group to have gifted a home for the program.

Wes Carroll, Owner and President of Empire Homes, lifted the first shovel of dirt on the company’s contribution and expressed the importance of the project.

“I think that it’s great for the College but it’s also great for the community. We’re trying to keep our younger generations here. If people are able to train here they are more likely to stay here, work here and raise families here. All of my staff members supported the project 100 per-cent.”

Over the four years of the five year project, CHBA members have crafted 10 homes, with the proceeds of each sale going towards the Trades Facility.

The Six Mile home will featured in the CHBA “Parade of Homes,” event which runs from September 10 – 25, 2016.
