LETHBRIDGE – Lethbridge College made a re-newed commitment to bringing up an innovative generation of Agriculture Equipment Technicians.

They announced a five-year, $750,000 agreement with Western Tractor to provide the best in new technology and hands-on training. The farming company will supply the program with state-of-the-art John Deere equipment.

The contribution will also go toward the creation of the Western Tractor Technology Lab, opening in the first phase of the College’s Trades and Technology building.

“It’s not the day where we used to hire somebody, and all we wanted was the ability for them to pull a wrench,” noted Steven Dyck, Western Tractor President.

“Now, they need to be diagnostic experts, they need to understand soil science, and they need to be able to have a relationship with a producer that’s a trusted advisor.”

According to Dr. Paula Burns, College President, 100-per cent of students in the Agriculture Equipment Technicians program have passed their provincial apprenticeship test.

She hopes this new training will only enhance those results.
