Galt Museum and Archives Turns 50

Jul 10, 2016 | 10:15 AM

LETHBRIDGE – The Galt Museum and Archives is offering free admission today (July 10) to celebrate its 50th birthday.

There will be cupcakes, beverages and an open house with brief comments at 2 p.m.

On July 1966, local community members opened the Sir Alexander Galt Museum in the 1910 Galt Hospital building.

Fifty years later, the museum will honour community volunteers and colleagues by placing bricks with each of their names on a Local Heroes walkway.

The museum current houses: “Daughters of the Prairies,” the work of Annora Brown of Fort Macleod.

This exhibition features some of Brown’s most well-known artworks as well as rarely seen paintings treasured by friends and admirers of the artist.

The Galt also has “Faces of Significance,” a mix of local arts on display.

This exhibit showcases artists who use various media to capture people in expressive and creative ways.
