RCMP Bust Calgary Man for Corvette Stolen from Coaldale

Jul 20, 2016 | 1:43 PM

COALDALE:   The lyrics from Prince’s song ‘Little red Corvette, Baby you’re much too fast” come to mind in a Break and Enter story out of Coaldale on Thursday.  However, the corvette wasn’t fast enough for the RCMP, since an alleged thief had loaded it onto a flatbed and was towing it out of town.

RCMP were quick to solve the stolen Corvette case and are now investigating the suspect in a possible link to other property crimes.

Just before 5:00-pm  on Tuesday, (July 19th)  RCMP were called to a residential break and enter in Coaldale, which was believed to have occurred within the previous few hours.

Items taken include a rifle, a significant amount of cash, personal property and a red 1976 Chevy Corvette.  A witness told police a man was seen loading the Corvette on a u-haul trailer attached to a grey Dodge truck.

Coaldale RCMP fanned the information out to surrounding RCMP Detachments and the Lethbridge Police Service.

Around 6:00-pm a Coaldale RCMP officer noted a grey truck pulling a u-haul trailer with a red corvette westbound on Highway 3 and stopped the vehicle at Scenic Drive.

The driver and sole occupant of the truck, a 46-year old Calgary man,  was arrested for numerous property offences. A large amount of additional stolen property was recovered including the missing rifle.

The suspect is being  investigated to determine if he can be linked to other area property crimes.  The suspect is in custody, pending criminal charges, including break, enter and theft.
