Statement Issued by Family of Murdered Lethbridge Boy

Aug 2, 2016 | 1:36 PM

LETHBRIDGE – With Tyler Brian Hogan set to appear in court this week on a charge of second degree murder, the family of nine month old Austin Wright released a statement to the media.

After thanking Lethbridge Police for their work on the case, they write, “We hope the individual charged with the murder of Austin will be held fully accountable for his actions! That he will be prosecuted to the fullestextent of the law.”

On April 28, 2016, EMS responded to a report of a baby in medical distress at a residence along the 600 block of 17 Street North. Upon arrival paramedics located Austin inside the home, not breathing and in cardiac arrest. He was transported to hospital where he was pronounced dead.

An investigation determined that Austin had been left in the care of his mother’s boyfriend, who was living in the residence at the time. While in the man’s care, the baby began crying and was subsequently assaulted sustaining extensive, life-threatening injuries. The man initially reported to police that Austin had fallen and just stopped breathing, but an autopsy determined the little boy died as a result of blunt force trauma not consistent with a fall.

Police have noted that Hogan has been cooperative throughout the investigation.

He will make his second court appearance Wednesday (Aug 3).
