RIO DE JANEIRO — IOC spokesman Mark Adams says reports of American swimmer Ryan Lochte being robbed at gunpoint are “absolutely not true,” despite stories in two outlets citing his mother.

Adams said Sunday during a daily briefing at the Rio Games that his information comes from the swimmer and the U.S. Olympic Committee.

A spokesman for the USOC said it was trying to get more information. Lochte’s mother, Ileana Lochte, did not immediately return a call from The Associated Press.

Rio organizers spokesman Mario Andrada said he has been briefed on an “issue” involving the swimmer, but could not say if he was held at gunpoint.

USA Today and Fox Sports Australia both said Lochte was robbed and had his wallet stolen.

The 32-year-old Lochte swam in two events at the Rio Games, winning gold in the 4×200-meter freestyle relay.
