TABER – A 45-year old Taber man has been charged in a significant fraud case in the community.

A complaint came in to Taber Police on October 23, 2014, of a theft and possible fraud in respect to the operations of the Oilmen’s Club in Taber. Following an investigation, police say it appears nearly $500,000 had been misappropriated.

The former manager of the Oilmen’s Club, Scott Blanchard, was arrested on Friday (Aug 12) and charged with one count of theft over $5,000 and one count of fraud over $5,000.

“This complaint involved numerous hours of investigation, many judicial orders, and consultation with the Special Prosecutors in Calgary, AB,” stated Taber Police Chief, Graham Abela. “The alleged victim in this matter has been patient as the Taber Police Service worked through the complexities of the case and I am pleased with the results of the work of our officers.”

He has since been released from custody and is set to appear in Taber provincial court on August 30.
