ALEXANDRIA, Ont. — Police have charged an eastern Ontario man after he allegedly kicked and threw rocks at a visually impaired woman’s service dog.

Ontario Provincial Police say the incident began around noon on Saturday in Alexandria, Ont., about 100 kilometres east of Ottawa.

Const. Tylor Copeland says a 32-year-old woman was walking with her service dog when they were approached by another man and his dogs.

Copeland says the woman tried to explain to the man that her dog was working and couldn’t play with his dogs.

He says an argument followed and police allege he kicked the dog and launched rocks at it.

Copeland says the dog didn’t suffer any lasting injuries.

Ricky Sabourin, 46, of North Glengarry Township, has been charged with cruelty to animals, assault with a weapon and mischief.
