Alberta Liberal Leader Expects Big Changes in Provincial Politics

LETHBRIDGE – Alberta’s political parties were well represented in Lethbridge Tuesday (Aug. 23) for the kick-off to Whoop-Up Days.

Party leaders waved to on-lookers from floats and horse-back as the parade moved through the city.

Liberal leader David Swann, noted that it’s a crucial time in provincial politics.

“There are three leadership races coming up of course, the Liberals are having a leadership race within the year, the Progress Conservatives, and Jason Kenney now thinks he’s going to bring together the conservative parties on the right,” stated Swann. “So it’s going to be a very interesting year, it’s going to change the face of politics in Alberta.”

Swann also noted that the success of the federal Liberals is helping to increase the stock of the provincial party.

“It’s good to be a Liberal in Alberta today, we’ve got four MPs here, Justin Trudeau is unprecedented in terms of popularity… I think he’s added a lot to the political spectrum and he’s certainly helped us in Alberta.”
