Lethbridge, AB – The Lethbridge Hurricanes Hockey Club announced Monday that they have acquired 1997-born defenseman Brennan Menell from the Vancouver Giants in exchange for 1997-born defenseman Darian Skeoch and a fourth round draft pick in the 2018 Western Hockey League Bantam Draft.

Menell, 19, was undrafted in the WHL Bantam Draft. The product of Woodbury, Minnesota, has spent the last two seasons with the Giants. In 126 games with Vancouver, Menell has registered 74 points (9g-65a) along with 52 penalty minutes.

“We are very pleased with adding a quality player to our lineup like Brennan Menell,” said Hurricanes General Manager, Peter Anholt. “He can help us on the power play and can move the puck out of our zone. With the loss of Atwal and Nielsen, we felt we had to shore that up and he was available.”

The 5’10, 187-pound rearguard had a career high 53 points (7g-46a) during the 2015-2016 season in 69 games finishing second in team scoring. He factored in on 26.6% of the Giants goals last season and was 11th in scoring among defenseman in the WHL. Menell is scheduled to take part in the Philadelphia Flyers Rookie Camp.

Skeoch, 19, was claimed off waivers by the Hurricanes prior to the 2015-2016 season. The New Liskeard, Ontario product appeared in 59 regular season games last season registering seven points (1g-6a) along with a plus-7 rating and 106 penalty minutes.

“Darian has been nothing short of a great warrior here for the Hurricanes,” said Anholt. “It’s not an easy deal to do. He’s worked himself to a point where he’s really created some value for himself and he was one of our hardest workers on any given day. We certainly wish him all the best.”

The Hurricanes will open the 2016-2017 regular season on Friday, September 23rd when they welcome the Medicine Hat Tigers at to the ENMAX Centre for the Dairy Queen Home Opener. Individual game tickets are now on sale by visiting the ENMAX Centre Ticket Centre or by calling 403-329-SEAT (7328).
