Busy Upcoming Weekend for Kodiaks Athletes

Sep 29, 2016 | 2:20 PM

LETHBRIDGE – After four straight road games, the Lethbridge College Kodiaks soccer teams finally return home this weekend to begin the second half of the ACAC season.

The men’s team played some strong defence this season, allowing less than two goals per game against. However, they have had issues scoring, as they’ve been shut out in each of their four losses. They will look to get the offence going and pick up a much-needed victory against the Broncos, a team they beat 3-0 earlier this season.

The women’s team also enters the weekend with a 1-4 record, in need of wins if it hopes to make a second half push for the ACAC playoffs. After earning its first-ever conference win earlier this year, the Broncos are one of the surprises of the season so far, coming into this game with a 2-2-1 record. It sets up a crucial match-up as the Kodiaks will need to track down the Broncos if they have any hope of making the post-season for a third-straight year.

The Kodiaks host Olds on Saturday at the Servus Sports Centre. The women’s game kicks off at noon, followed by the men’s contest at 2 p.m, and admission is free. They hit the road to face SAIT on Sunday.

Some Kodiaks cross country runners will take part in this weekend’s Lethbridge Police Service Run on Saturday, but the team is off from ACAC competition until October 15.

Other Kodiaks teams are on the road to begin pre-season play, as well. The men’s basketball team is at NAIT, the women’s basketball team visits SAIT, the women’s volleyball team travels to Red Deer and the men’s volleyball team is at Medicine Hat.
