VULCAN COUNTY – The driver and eight passengers aboard a Palliser school bus that rolled into a ditch in Vulcan County, due to icy conditions, were taken to hospital on Friday (Oct. 7) afternoon.

A release from the regional school division says the incident happened around 1-pm, just east of Highway 23 near Milo. Fortunately, everyone in the bus was able to escape after it came to a rest on its side in the ditch, and were picked up by another Palliser bus travelling nearby.

Parents and emergency personnell were contacted right away. The students on-board were heading home from County Central High School and Prairieview Elementary School.

Three students were transported to a Calgary hospital for further treatment, while the driver and remaining students were taken to the Vulcan hospital as a precaution.

The matter has since been turned over to Vulcan RCMP, and Palliser stated that an internal review will follow after the investigation is complete.

In the meantime, if any students are experiencing anxiety related to the incident, they’re encouraged to talk with their principal about arranging a counselling session or other support when school resumes after the Thanksgiving break.
