Hurricanes lead Central division after downing Victoria
LETHBRIDGE – The Hurricanes captured first place in the Central division after downing the Victoria Royals 5-2 at the Enmax on Wednesday night. After eight games, the Canes have 11 points and are sitting at 5-2-0-1.
The Canes opened the scoring less than three minutes into the first period, on a shot by Egor Babenko, assisted by Jordy Bellerive. Victoria’s Jack Walker evened the game at 17:33.
As play entered the second frame, the Hurricanes had control of the action. Giorgio Estephan tossed one through the pipes near the 8:00 mark, assisted by Brayden Burke and Jesse Zaharichuk. Two minutes later, Burke scored the game winner on a power-play, with backup from Ryley Lindgren and Brennan Menell.
The third period saw two more goals for the Hurricanes – one each from Giorgio Estephan and Egor Babenko and the Jared Dmytriw netted the final goal for the Royals.
