First Community Outlook Report Largely Positive for the Region

Oct 13, 2016 | 2:59 PM

LETHBRIDGE – The City of Lethbridge has released the first report of its kind that brings economic and social data down to a local level.

The 2015 – 2022 Community Outlook Report features information based around global, national, provincial and regional settings.

It provides specific insight into the city’s current state, but also  creates a snapshot of future projections for planning purposes.

Jeff Greene, City of Lethbridge Director of Planning and Development, went over some of the major highlights from the report. Those include construction rising to $250-million in building permit value, large projects, like the University of Lethbridge’s Destination Project, making significant contributions to the local economy and an ever-growing population that only continues to have a positive impact on employment and housing.

The Outlook Report was put together by Economic Development Lethbridge (EDL), as well as the City’s Corporate Services, Community Services and Planning and Development department.

“We thought that bringing all the information together would be beneficial to not only the City of Lethbridge and its departments, but also for a good understanding of industry that is in Lethbridge and might want to relocate here,” noted Greene.

Information was gathered from Statistics Canada, the Lethbridge Census, the Conference Board of Canada, a number of major financial institutions, the provincial government, educational institutions, with the City and EDL also chipping in their own research.
